Saturday Ritual

Every Saturday, I wake up happy. Why? Because I know I will be heading to the Neighborgoods Market at the Old Biscuit Mill (OBM) in Woodstock, just down the road from where I live.

This is the culinary pinnacle of Cape Town in my mind. It is a market with over a hundred vendors of prepared food, fresh vegetables, cheeses, breads, pestos, coffee, meat…anything you could ever wish for.

From 9-2, Cape Town’s trendiest, most hipster crowd flocks to this market for food, drinks, and people-watching.

My personal favourite is the Ostrich Burger, a south African specialty cooked to perfection with an amazing sauce, topped with guacamole, caramelized onions, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and, a mild chilli spread.

The seared tuna steak comes in at a close second. The steak sandwich, flatbread pizza, smoothies, and desserts are also phenomenal. Actually, everything I have ever eaten there has been phenomenal.

Seriously, my obsession with this place is beyond normal. Every week, we think about what we will get for the entire week before Saturday because we know everything is so delicious and we will take forever to decide.

I know that when I go home, every Saturday I will wake up, think of the OBM, and miss Cape Town more than ever.
